Aklak Air has been in operation since 1978. Currently Aklak Air is a commercial aviation Joint Venture company based in Inuvik. The Joint venture was formed by Aklak Air Ltd. and Kenn Borek Air Ltd. in June of 1994. This Joint Venture allows Aklak Air to access Kenn Borek Air's aircraft fleet as and when required.
Aklak Air operates scheduled and charter flights. The following communities are serviced by scheduled flights Fort Mcpherson, Paulatuk, Sachs Harbour, and Tuktoyaktuk. Offstrip charters can be provided with wheelskis, skis, or tundra tires. During seasonal peaks, Aklak Air typically operates 4 aircraft out of its Inuvik base. The aircraft consist of a combination of Twin Otters and Beech 99's

Kenn Borek Air's DC-3 C-117 can be based in Inuvik. Aklak Air supplies ground
and management support to Kenn Borek Air for this aircraft. This aircraft
is cargo only.
The Airline maintains a strict safety program including dual flight crew, cockpit management training, Department of Transport Instrument Flight Rating for aIl Pilots, and twin turbine engine aircraft for all passenger flights.
